Texas Holdem Poker – Technical Jargon
A clear understanding of what the technical terms are allows you to proceed better in the game.
Posting is the beginning phase of the game where the dealer, small blinds and big blinds set their mandatory bets.
Some games also call for antes apart from the blinds to be put forward by the players and these antes are not a part of the final bet and are a part of forced bets.
Blinds are the bets that are placed even before the hole cards are dealt.
Hole cards are the two initial cards that are dealt to you facing down.
Call: you call a bet when you place an equal amount as the minimum bet amount.
Fold: If you decide not to place a bet and refrain from playing the round, it is called folding.
Raise: You add to the bet placed by the previous player
All In: place every chip that you have into the game.
Pre-Flop: is the betting after the cards are dealt to the players but the communal cards have not been placed on the table.
Flop: The dealing of 3 cards facing upwards on the table as communal cards is called the flop.
Turn: The 4th communal card that is dealt is called the turn.
River: The 5th communal card and this is also known as the fifth street by the professional players
Bust out: to bust out is to lose all the chips that you have.
